Turkeyen woman dead after late night EBD crash

A 29-year-old woman lost her life while two other persons were injured following a late-night collision along the Sarah Johanna Access Road, East Bank Demerara, on Sunday.
Dead is Lisa Blackman of Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara.
The accident occurred at about 22:40 hrs and involved motor car PNN 7493 and a parked motor lorry along the western side of the roadway.
According to police reports, the motor car was travelling north along the access road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle before it slammed into the rear portion of the stationary lorry.
The impact of the collision left the car badly damaged and trapped at least one of the occupants inside the wreckage.
Public-spirited citizens rushed to the scene and assisted in removing Blackman along with the injured driver from the mangled vehicle. They were subsequently transported to the New Diamond Regional Hospital, where Blackman was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.
The driver, a 42-year-old man from Turkeyen, sustained serious injuries and was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further medical treatment.
Meanwhile, another occupant of the car, a 36-year-old miner of Quamina Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming pinned inside the vehicle. He was also taken to the New Diamond Regional Hospital, where he remains a patient receiving medical attention.
The body of the deceased is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are continuing efforts to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
