“Black Spanish” found dead after committing robbery at Lethem

A robbery at a business establishment in Lethem on Tuesday afternoon took a dramatic turn after one of the suspected perpetrators was later found dead with gunshot injuries in Tabatinga, Central Rupununi.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred around 14:00 hrs at a business place in Lethem, where a 27-year-old businessman was allegedly robbed by two armed men. The suspects reportedly entered the store, confronted the businessman at gunpoint, and escaped with cash amounting to approximately $650,000 Guyana currency and Brazilian reais.
The men allegedly fled the scene on a motorcycle that was being operated by a third individual waiting outside the business.
Hours later, 18-year-old Edward Arjune, also known as “Black Spanish,” of Lethem, was discovered in an area behind Plastic City, Bon Success, Tabatinga, with suspected gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities also recovered a haversack in the area containing Guyana and Brazilian currency believed to be linked to the robbery. A motorcycle without registration plates and two helmets suspected to have been used during the incident were also recovered.
One man from Culvert City, Central Rupununi, has since been taken into custody, while efforts continue to locate another suspect.
Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage captured at the business establishment as the probe into the robbery and subsequent death continues.
