The Government of Guyana is expected to launch a special diaspora bond within the next week, targeting Guyanese living abroad as part of efforts to raise financing for major public infrastructure projects across the country.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday evening at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, as part of activities surrounding Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
According to President Ali, the initiative is designed to give members of the Guyanese diaspora an opportunity to directly contribute to the country’s ongoing development and transformation.
“Members of the diaspora, here is your opportunity to make your contribution and be part of the massive transformation taking place in our country,” the President said.
The diaspora bond will seek to tap into the financial resources of Guyanese overseas, channeling those investments into critical infrastructure development projects as the country accelerates its national transformation agenda.
Government officials have indicated that further details on the bond, including investment terms and participation guidelines, are expected to be released in the coming days.
