Magistrate issues arrest warrant for fake CANU officer after he fails to attend court

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly today issued an arrest warrant for 37-year-old Kevin McDonald, also known as “Brother Fraud”, a former policeman, who was arrested by the Police after he pretended to be a Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officer.

The man of 41 Nabacalis Public Road, East Coast Demerara, was charged with two counts of abduction and was instructed to attend the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts today to answer the charges. However, he did not turn up causing Senior Magistrate Leron Daly to issue a warrant for his arrest.

More than a week ago, he was detained after he tried to arrest one Ryan Gonsalves while pretending to be a CANU officer. According to information, on the day in question, at around 13:45 hrs, Gonsalves was at his stall when Mc Donald approached him in a white Toyota Premio.

Mc Donald then identified himself as a CANU officer and proceeded to pick up pair of handcuffs to arrest Gonsalves, who however managed to resist him and escaped. He later made a report to the Alberttown Police Station. A police rank who was on duty in the area at the time was alerted and swiftly apprehend Mc Donald.

A search was carried out in his person during which a metal handcuff was found. In 2016, McDonald was slapped with four counts of forgery and later found guilty of the offence.

It was alleged that between April 10, 2014, and April 16, 2014, with intent to defraud, he forged several receipts purporting to show that they were issued by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports to him, knowing the same to be false.

He had denied the charges and was subjected to a trial. After the trial, a City Magistrate found him guilty and fined him $400,000.
