Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, recently met with a delegation from Blumberg Grain, a United States-based company partnering with the Government of Guyana on the construction of the Regional Food Hub at Yarrowkabra along the Linden–Soesdyke Highway.
The delegation was led by the company’s Chairman, Philip Blumberg. During the meeting, discussions focused on the progress of the major agricultural project, with officials revealing that construction of the facility is currently about 60 per cent complete.
The meeting also examined additional investment opportunities as Guyana continues to expand its agricultural sector. Particular attention was given to Region Five, where potential initiatives could support increased agricultural production and agro-processing activities.
The Regional Food Hub is a central component of the Government’s strategy to strengthen food production, storage, processing, and distribution systems while positioning Guyana as a key supplier of agricultural products to the Caribbean.
Once completed, the facility is expected to support the aggregation and value-added processing of agricultural commodities, improve logistics and export capacity, and contribute significantly to regional food security efforts. The hub also aligns with ongoing Caribbean initiatives aimed at reducing the region’s food import bill.
