Region One man pleads guilty to attempted murder

Nigel Abrams, a 32-year-old resident of Black Water, North West District in Region One (Barima-Waini), has pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted murder.
Abrams admitted to wounding 19-year-old Ron Moonsammy on April 17, 2022, with the intent to murder him.
The plea was made before Justice Peter Hugh at the Demerara High Court.
Sentencing has been postponed to October 17, 2024, allowing time for the preparation of a probation report, victim impact statements, and the presentation of aggravating and mitigating factors.
Prosecutor Caressa Henry is handling the case, while Abrams is being represented by attorney Madan Kissoon.
According to police reports, the incident took place during a drinking session involving Abrams, his stepson Daniel Wilson, then 17, and Wilson’s cousin, Moonsammy.
A heated argument between Abrams and Wilson escalated, and when Moonsammy tried to intervene, Abrams stabbed him in the chest.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Abrams is also awaiting trial for the murder of his stepson, Daniel Wilson, who was fatally wounded during the same altercation.
