Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a body in a trench along Church of God Road in Buxton, East Coast Demerara, early Friday morning.
According to reports, at approximately 07:45 hrs, police received a report via a 911 call regarding the sighting of a motionless human body in a trench located on the western side of the road.
Upon arrival, ranks discovered the body of 66-year-old George Julian Harry, a pensioner and resident of Lot 103 Church of God Road, Buxton.
According to investigators, Harry, who was of African descent, was known to suffer from seizures and was a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s clinic.
He was found floating face-down in the trench, barefoot and dressed in a black T-shirt and navy-blue long pants. A watch was observed on his left wrist. An examination of the body revealed no visible marks of violence on the most exposed areas.
Emergency personnel from the Melanie Fire Station responded to the scene. The attending physician pronounced the man dead.
The body was positively identified by his cousin, Arita Phillander, a 54-year-old vendor from Annandale, East Coast Demerara.
Police canvassed the area and interviewed several residents. Surveillance cameras were observed on a building opposite the location, and statements are currently being collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
Harry’s body has been transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it will be held pending a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
