MV BARIMA DISTRESS: Sophia man among missing crew members

Quincy Smartt, a 44-year-old resident of 43 Dennis Street, Sophia, is among the crew members who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while on a voyage from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
His brother, Jermaine Smartt, told BIG Smith News Watch that Quincy, an employee of the Transport and Harbours Department, was working aboard the vessel at the time of the incident.
The family is appealing for information on his whereabouts as search efforts continue. Anyone with information is asked to contact 651-9542.
