Lusignan Lands Finally Accessible to Applicants

March 20 2025- After years—some even decades—of waiting, hopeful landowners finally had the opportunity to identify and claim their plots at Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara.

The long-awaited moment saw dozens of individuals, beaming with joy, gathering at the site, eager to mark their new properties and take the first steps toward homeownership.

Among those present were individuals who had applied as far back as 2006, while others had been waiting for over 40 years to secure their rightful piece of land.

Some applicants had been on the waiting list for 10, 14, or more years, enduring uncertainty but holding onto hope. Now, with their lots officially allotted, many are already planning their next move—construction and development.

For some, this marks the end of a long struggle with renting, as they now look forward to owning their own homes and creating stability for their families.

The significance of this moment was clear as families, young professionals, and elderly individuals arrived with signs in hand, proudly staking claim to their long-awaited plots.

The distribution of these lands reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing the housing needs of citizens and providing opportunities for homeownership.

For many, Lusignan is not just a location—it represents the future they’ve been striving toward for years
