Statement from the Guyana Police Force

The Guyana Police Force has issued the following statement on September 12 2024.

“Reference is made here to a News article carried on the Evening News and in Guyana Times that Drupwattie Deenarine, a 44-year-old part-time worker of #56 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was stripped naked by rank(s) of #51 Police Station.

The Regional Police Commander of Region #6, Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, is vehemently refuting this article which is grossly erroneous, and seeks to deceive the public.

The investigating ranks acted in a professional manner in conducting the investigation based on a report.

Drupwattie Deenarine was arrested at #63 village on 2024/09/09 and escorted to Springlands Police Station along with the reporter, Cindy Fraser.

Upon reaching the station, she was interviewed by L/Cpl Tyndall and Constabe Sukdeo. After interviewing, she gave a written statement, a ‘patdown’ searched conducted by Woman Constable Welch and placed on the bench.

At about 18:15hrs she was informed of bail, which she made at about 21:45hrs.”
