Security Forces on cock for any election violence, eventualities

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Irfaan Ali, on Friday morning, said the system is in place for a peaceful pre- and post-election as Guyanese head to the polls on September 1, 2025.
He was responding to a question from the press about the readiness of the state’s security apparatus to keep the country safe, given what the nation experienced following the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge.
“The Joint Services… they have activated their mechanism a number of weeks now; they are having their joint meetings, and they have assured me that they have every system in place. They have assured me that they have the equipment, the manpower, and they have a well-laid-out system to deal with any issues if they arise. We don’t believe that this will be the case, but they are prepared, they are prepared for any eventualities,”- President Irfaan Ali told the media at Eve Leary.
Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken was also asked about the readiness and ability of the police to maintain calm and restore order if needed.
“We are adequately prepared, remember nomination day we were quiet, we expect that this day is going to be quiet (Today as the joint services cast their vote), and similarly for the General and Regional Election, we expect it to be quiet. The police are going to be prepared, we have increased in terms of our number of policemen voting this year and so we are being across the region and we are going to be monitoring everything, we don’t expect anything,, we have Guyanese who are good people and so we don’t expect anything to happen” Clifton Hicken.
Commissioner Hicken alluded to the ongoing training that the force has been having with other joint services members, coupled with the involvement of regional partners.
President Irfaan Ali, this morning as a candidate to the polls, visited the Guyana Police Force Officers’ Mess to observe the voting process there. Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, his deputies, and other senior and junior personnel of the force voted at the location on Friday morning.
The Joint Services members, Police, Army, and Prison officers voted today ahead of the rest of the population, who will cast their ballots on September 01, 2025.
