Man Arrested for ‘Makeshift’ Firearm

On Sunday, two police officers on mobile patrol in Cracrana, Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas, apprehended 29-year-old Vibert Thomas, a mason from Karasabai, for possession of a makeshift firearm.
The officers, patrolling in a police ATV, noticed Thomas riding a bicycle with a long metal object on his right shoulder.
As they approached, Thomas dropped the object next to a mango tree and stood nearby. Upon inspection, the officers discovered the object to be a makeshift single-barrel shotgun.
The firearm, lacking ammunition and a serial number, was examined in Thomas’ presence. When asked if he possessed a valid firearm license, Thomas admitted he did not. He claimed he had made the gun for hunting on his farm.
Thomas was subsequently arrested and taken to the Karasabai Police Station along with the suspected firearm.
