GLDA Warns Public as Bee Activity Increases

December 8 2025
The Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA) is urging citizens to exercise caution as bee activity increases during the current honey flow season. According to the agency, bees are typically more active—and may become more aggressive—during this period, heightening the potential for encounters with the public.
In response, the GLDA is advising residents to remain alert and report any sightings of bee swarms, heightened activity, or wild colonies. Officials say rapid development and habitat disruption across several regions have contributed to a recent uptick in bee-related incidents.
The GLDA, in collaboration with the Guyana Food Safety Authority, is also advancing its Honey Pilot Project, which aims to educate communities on honeybee behaviour and encourage safer interactions while highlighting the vital ecological role bees play.
