Guyana, DR deepen agricultural cooperation

June 3 2026
Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha is currently in the Dominican Republic where he has been engaging key stakeholders in the agriculture sector as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance agricultural development in Guyana.
During his visit, Minister Mustapha met with Dominican Republic Minister of Agriculture Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme. Discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including opportunities to boost crop production in Guyana through enhanced collaboration.
The two ministers also explored technical cooperation, the sharing of agricultural expertise and technology, and strategies aimed at improving productivity and expanding value-added production in both countries.
Minister Mustapha also held talks with former Dominican Republic President Hipólito Mejía, where attention was placed on the future of Guyana’s agriculture sector, including knowledge transfer and initiatives to support increased production and diversification.
The engagements build on earlier discussions in Guyana, where a Dominican delegation met with President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Minister Mustapha to advance cooperation in areas such as crop production, agro-processing, technology transfer, and capacity building.
