GECOM Employee Charged with $5M Larceny

September 25, 2025 – Georgetown: A Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) employee has been charged in connection with the theft of more than $5 million from the agency’s Secretariat.
Dikimbie Gittens, a 30-year-old Assistant Accountant of Onderneeming, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was arrested on Monday, September 22, and charged with Larceny by Clerk or Servant under Section 184 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
He appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today, where the charge was read to him. Gittens was not required to enter a plea. Bail was refused, and he was remanded to prison until October 15, 2025, when the matter is expected to be called again for report.
The charge stems from allegations that Gittens stole in excess of $5 million from the GECOM Secretariat at Barrack and Fort Streets, Kingston, Georgetown, between September 15 and 16, 2025.
