Murder probe uncover guns, ammo at Blackwater

Police in Regional Division Seven are continuing investigations into the alleged murder of Moses Chapelle, known as “Bizo,” which occurred on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Blackwater Backdam, Cuyuni River.
Authorities have confirmed that a 45-year-old gold miner of Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, remains in custody as investigations intensify.
As part of ongoing enquiries, ranks conducted an operation on Sunday, April 26, at Blackwater Landing, Cuyuni River, where two firearms were recovered—an AM-15 rifle and a .32 pistol—along with a quantity of ammunition.
Police reported that the discovery included two magazines containing a total of 42 live .223 rounds, one magazine with four live .32 rounds, a 9mm magazine, an additional 70 .223 rounds, and 48 live 9mm rounds.
The firearms and ammunition have since been lodged as exhibits and form part of the ongoing investigation into Chapelle’s death.
Investigations are ongoing.
