Fisherman Charged with Child Rape

September 23, 2025 – A 20-year-old fisherman from Westbury, Essequibo, has been charged with the rape of a minor and placed on $500,000 bail.
Norvin Oneil appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where the charge of rape of a child under 16 years was read to him. The offence is alleged to have been committed against a Guyanese female of mixed ancestry between March 1 and May 21, 2024.
Oneil was not required to enter a plea. The prosecutor strongly objected to bail, but the magistrate granted release with strict conditions. He is required to report to the Charity Police Station every other Friday and must have no contact with the victim while the matter is pending.
The case has been adjourned to October 13, 2025.
