Uitvlugt housewife found dead in trench; man held

Police are investigating the murder of 46-year-old Shavannie Hanoman, called “Bo”, whose body was discovered in a trench at De Groot-EnKline, Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, on Thursday.
Hanoman, a housewife of De Groot-EnKline, was reported missing after she failed to return home on Wednesday, June 24.
According to preliminary investigations, residents discovered a body floating in a trench in the community on Thursday, June 25, and alerted the police. The body was subsequently removed and identified as Hanoman.
An examination revealed injuries to her neck and other parts of her body. She was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where a doctor pronounced her dead on arrival. Her body has since been transferred to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have arrested a 44-year-old man from De Groot-EnKline in connection with the incident. He remains in custody as investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding Hanoman’s death.
Investigations are ongoing.
