Corentyne man jailed for 17 years over fatally stabbing ‘Boy’

A Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) man was, on Tuesday, handed a 17-year jail sentence for the unlawful killing of 25-year-old Patrick Wilson also called ‘Boy.’

Samuel Stewart, 41, who was initially indicted for the capital offence of murder was found guilty by a jury on the lesser offence of manslaughter following a trial last month.

On Tuesday morning, Berbice High Court Judge Simone Morris-Ramlall imposed the custodial sentence on the convicted killer.

Wilson formerly of Limlair Village, Corentyne, was stabbed once to his chest on June 16, 2019 during an argument with Stewart.

It was previously reported that the now dead man, his brother and a cousin were imbibing at a liquor shop in the area.

Soon after Stewart walked into the shop, an argument broke out between him and the other men.

Stewart had reportedly accused Wilson’s cousin of “talking he name” around the community. As a result, Wilson and Stewart ended up in a physical altercation.

Wilson then assaulted Stewart with a piece of wood. In retaliation, Stewart pulled out a knife and stabbed Wilson in his chest.

While on his way home, an injured Wilson collapsed to the ground and was later pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
