A Joint Service team (police, Prison, and Army ranks) is continuing the manhunt for four prison escapees from the Mazaruni Prison.

Early Tuesday morning, Crime Chief Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum and Deputy Commissioner Operations Clifton Hicken confirmed that the team has been going after a number of leads that came from information received.

We were informed that just last week, there was a report that the men were hiding out at a location on the East Coast Demerara, the police mobilized and went to the area but came up empty-handed.

There have also been checks in a number of riverine and hinterland locations which were also prompted on information received but there has been no sighting of the men.

On February 16, 2021, four inmates, namely; Imran Ramsaywack, Rayon Jones, Samuel Gouveia, and Kenrick Lyte broke out of Mazaruni prison which is located on the Essequibo River.

Samuel Gouveia was serving a sentence for the murder of miner Santee Solomon while Imran Ramsaywack was sentenced to death for the murder of Samantha Benjamin. Kenrick Lyte was also sentenced to death for murdering pensioner Osmond Fiedtkou.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the escapees might have already skipped to Suriname but based on what was communicated to this publication, local law enforcement from both countries have been in contact in relation to the matter.

Meanwhile less than 72 hours after the men escaped from Prison, they were assisted with a change of clothing by Ralph Jones, the father of Rayon Jones. The elderly jones was arrested based on intelligence received by the police.

During interrogation, the man admitted to helping the four men but claimed he had no idea where they went after they left his premises at Lot 114 Fourth Avenue Bartica. He was later charged and placed before the courts where he remains a remanded prisoner.
