President Irfaan Ali said that he was confident that the Guyana Police Force would have solved the murders of Joel and Isiah Henry. Speaking to the media on the side lines of an event on Friday and hours after three men appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, the President described the charges as a “big step forward.”

Citing his elation with the charges, the President said he has “full confidence in the police force, in the ability of the Crime Chief and his team and I am very happy that we have made such progress on this matter.”

The men were on Friday morning charged and remanded for the September 2020 murders of the cousins. 34-year-old Anil Sancharra, 30-year-old Vinod Gopaul and 34-year-old, Akash Singh appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. Sancharra and Gopaul were charged jointly for the murders of the cousins while Singh was charged separately for the same double murder.

The men were unrepresented. Their next court appearance is slated for  February at a court on the West Coast of Berbice.
