Man convicted of raping 8-Y-O

33 Year Old Ivor Laud was on Monday found guilty on two counts of rape committed on an underage girl. Laud was on trial for the offense before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow and a jury at the High Court in Georgetown.

The first charge against him stated that between March 01 and 31, 2015 he engaged in sexual penetration with the girl when she was eight years old. It was further stated in police documents that again in 2017… two years later, Laud again engaged in an act of rape by sexually penetrating the girl when the ten years old.

After deliberations, the jury found him guilty on both counts. In the circumstances, Laud who was out on bail pending trial was remanded to prison until March 18, 2021, when he will return to court for sentencing.

According to the facts of the matter, between March 1 and 31, 2015, in the county of Demerara, Laud called the girl over to his house. When the girl followed him inside, he took her into a bedroom where he placed her to lie on a bed and performed the unlawful act.

After deliberations, the jury found him guilty on both counts. In the circumstances, Laud who was out on bail pending trial was remanded to prison until March 18, 2021, when he will return to court for sentencing.
