Crime Chief suspended, another senior officer to follow suit

Crime Chief Lyndon Alves
Deputy Commissioner Law Enforcement, Crime Chief Lyndon Alves has been ordered suspended by government in the public’s interest as the force continues to be named and shamed in a number of corrupt practices and misconducts all of which reportedly fingers him. Big Smith Crime Watch this morning managed to confirm the reports of the suspension from a senior government source who also indicated that at least one other senior officer is also likely to receive suspension orders.
Over the last few weeks a number of allegations were being leveled against a ‘senior officer’ of the force by several whistle-blowers from within the police force. However it was the BIG Smith Crime Watch which stated that the claims were being leveled against a Deputy Commissioner of Police and that the President was on Friday morning briefed on the specific matters where the name of the Crime Chief was being mentioned.
Confirmed reports have indicated that there is one other senior officer who is likely to also receive suspension orders as government has been brought up to speed about several instances of that very officer being corrupt and also receiving bribes from a number of persons in society.
President David Granger in the lead up to the selection of the Commissioner of Police and the handpicking of the four Deputy Commissioners of Police made it clear that those who are placed to lead the force should do so by example. He further cautioned that he was looking for a Commissioner of Police who was not corrupt and who is unbribable.
Contacted for a Comment this morning, Deputy Commissioner of Police Nigel Hoppie who is performing the duties of Commissioner of Police (Leslie James out of the country) said that the Crime Chief is not suspended and that he does not know where the reports are coming from.
“No, no, man the Crime Chief is not suspended, I just spoke with Crime Chief and he is on active duty and still a member of the force” Hoppie told BIG Smith Crime Watch just before heading into a meeting at the Ministry of the Presidency.
Today, Tuesday the National Security Meeting is being held at the Ministry of the Presidency and it is expected that the issue of Crime Chief as well as the other senior officer will be discussed in detail.
In fact, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan in an interview with BIG Smith Crime Watch had indicated that he was preparing to have a full brief on the matters today.
“Look I was asked to remain silent while this investigation is ongoing so that police OPR can do its work but I intend to have a report on the matter at the NSM, so yes let’s see what happens there” Ramjattan told BIG Smith Crime watch during an interview on Saturday morning.
There is also one other officer of the force who is reported to have been in very close communication with a security proprietor and has been accessing police files where that officer had a direct involvement in the vetting and recruiting of former members of the force to join the security company.
Further it was related that the senior officer’s office was also used to facilitate the businessman’s firearm needs which provided him an edge over his competitors. That businessman is now before the courts charged with conspiracy to commit murder and the weapons assigned to his security service were confiscated by the Guyana Police Force as the probe into that matter continues.
