Permanent Secretary Soyinka Grogan

Newly appointed Permanent Secretary in the Department of Public Service Soyinka Grogan said that her vision for the Public Sector is that it becomes one which is encouraging and attractive especially to young people.

Grogan who has worked all of her life within the public service said that many times time when persons hear of the jobs within the public sector they are afraid to take those up for various reason. She said attention would also be turned to the recommendations coming out of the Commission of Inquiry into the public sector.

“I would like to see the public sector come to a point which is encouraging and attractive to young people. We also have to look at reform and we are also going to be looking at the  recommendations coming out of the COI into the Public Service, that is a good place to start” PS Grogan told BIG Smith News Watch.

Grogan has worked for more than two decades in the public service and hails from the community of Uitvlugt and attended the Stewartville secondary School, both on the West coast Demerara.

According to her, while she has attained a lot of knowledge working in the public service over the years, she does plan to continue allowing herself to become familiarized with other procedures which she might not yet have been exposed to even while pointing out the process of learning is a never ending one.

PS Grogan told Big Smith News Watch that over the years she has served the public service with the principles of humility, simplicity, integrity and character and an understanding and appreciation for following processes, all of which she said will continue to guide her continued service within the public service even at the level she is now elevated to.

Soyinka Grogan further added that attention would be focused on where the loop holes are and have those addressed. She was however quick to point out that there is a process as is with everything and the processes would be followed as she seeks to work closely with all external agencies and internal staff as one team of public servants to make the sector a better one.

Soyinka Grogan was appointed by President David Granger on December 02, 2019. A statement from the Department of Public Service earlier today noted that Grogan comes to the table with a Master’s Degree in Social Work and has been in the public sector since 1997 where she started out as a Student Affairs Officer and holding several other key positions before becoming a manager and now the Permanent Secretary.

Today she along with Minister of Public Service Tabitha Sarabo-Halley met with the staff at the Ministry’s Waterloo office where commitments were given to work together as well as she, Grogan thanking the staff for their support.
