GOAL scholarship initiative reaches Region 2

Diversity within the human resources capacity in Region 2 Pomeroon Supenaam is expected to see transformations within the region in five years if all goes well with those who flocked to signed onto the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL).

On Saturday Minister of Public Service Sonia Parag launched the initiative in Region 2 on behalf of the Government of Guyana at the Regional Democratic Council Office.

“Basically what we do, is we search the world for the best courses, we enroll our students at the universities and then we pass the list to our Minister of Public Service for granting of the scholarship.” Deputy Director of GOAL, Ronald Singh, told Region 2.

Ronald Sigh told applicants yesterday, that GOAL is geared towards transforming the delivery of tertiary education in Guyana. “We are witnessing an education revolution… four years from now we may not want to go back there and sit in a university. In fact, studies have shown %70 of persons who once sat in classrooms, will be fully online within the next few years. This Government is doing its part to ensure that Guyana keeps up with the rest of the world because presently we are behind as it relates to the number of persons who have a tertiary education.”

In her feature address, Minister Parag, like she told other regions, explained that persons who hadn’t an opportunity to complete CSEC nor CAPE, can still have access to the courses offered. “There is a program called the bachelor proprietary program, which once completed, gives you the same qualification as if you bad CXC or CAPE.” She noted.

In an effort to accommodate a wide cross-section of Region 2’s population, locations were also set up at the Charity Secondary School, and the Johana Cecilia Secondary. There were outreaches in other parts of the country on Friday and Saturday by several government officials who rolled out GOALD.

Minister of Education Priya Manickchand was in Region 3, Minister Rodrigues in Region 8 and other ministers were also fanned out.
