The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company has announced that is has been able to raise Ten Million Guyana Dollars in 2020 towards its initiative to support those in the fight against cancer.

The monies were raised through the phone company’s signature event ‘Pinktober’ and given the coronavirus, the company indicated that the funds raised, were done so through a number of virtual events.

The announcement was made last week during Cancer Day. At the event, GTT’s Pinktober coordinator Diana Gittens expressed satisfaction that the company was still able to get the input from Guyanese to meet its targeted fundraising despite the health pandemic.

Gittens noted that the company was cognisant of the health situation, the need for social distancing and all other policies which guides us in relation to covid-19 and knew that the company could not in 2020, host its regular activities.

“Your support will go towards strengthening our fight against cancer and is a truly tangible reminder that we are in this together,” a statement from the phone company quoted Gittens as saying.

The company also expressed appreciation to a number of companies which have assisted the process.

GTT’s 2020 Pinktober outreach consisted of a series of virtual and interactive activities, including Fit and Pink Friday, a newly added TikTok challenge, Pink Friday’s and a dedicated Mental Health Day in addition to the annual sales of Pinktober branded items.

All proceeds raised go 100 percent into cancer care and treatment to the benefit of patients across Guyana
