DEAD: Lance Corporal Don Carlos- Alleyne

Police Special Lance Corporal Don Carlos- Alleyne who died in May hours after he was kicked and beaten about the body by a police sergeant at the Police Special Constabulary Headquarters, also in May, reportedly brought to the attention of his seniors, an ‘inappropriate conduct’ which the sergeant and a ‘civilian companion’ were engaged in on the police premises.Lance Corporal dies days after fight with police sergeant

BIG Smith Crime Watch first broke the story where Special Lance Corporal Don Carlos Alleyne died at the Georgetown Public Hospital hours after he was taken there for medical treatment after a beating at the hands of the police sergeant.  That police sergeant is still on the job.

Carlos remained in the hospital morgue for days and it was after he was found not to be reporting for work that checks were made with his relatives and subsequently the hospital where one rank recalled, that Carlos was last seen.

On Monday the top command of the force during a press conference chaired by Commissioner of Police Leslie James was asked to provide an update on the matter and Crime Chief Lyndon Alves responded.

“The sergeant as a member of the force is still on the job until such advice is given on the way forward” Alves related.

Alves said no legal advice has yet been given in relation to the matter and that the file, after it was sent for initial legal advice was returned to the police to have a few points cleared up.

“That matter is still under investigation, that file was subsequently sent for legal advice and there are some points that have to be cleared up so the file was sent back to ‘A’ Divison and we are awaiting those points to be cleared up” the news conference was told on Monday.

However the BIG Smith Crime Watch was subsequently informed that the entire episode between the two started after the Lance Corporal was reportedly in-charge of the facility on a particular night, a night when the Sergeant was not required to be on the premises.

Nevertheless, the sergeant it was reported, found himself on the premises and in one of the offices with a ‘companion’ and upon seeing this, the Lance Corporal confronted him about it.

The said Lance Corporal Carlos then reported the matter to more senior operatives at Special Constabulary and that reportedly angered the sergeant who then confronted the Carlos for bringing to the attention of seniors, the fact that he had a ‘ civilian companion’ on the premises.

He then reportedly assaulted the rank who then went in search for medical attention by died in the process.

The details surrounding the circumstances surrounding why the rank was assaulted by his senior in the first place, was never made clear. When the police issued a statement on the matter, they referred to the development as an ‘Incident’ and made no mention of the assault of the rank by one of his senior, but promised to provide an update ‘later’

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 25 year-old Special Lance Corporal Carlos Alleyne which occurred on 2019-05-04 about 14:52h at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he went hours earlier to seek medical attention; he had reportedly complained of feeling unwell following an incident at the Special Constabulary Headquarters on Princess Street, Worthmanville about 09:30h that very day.
An autopsy done today, revealed that Alleyne died from brain hemorrhage and blunt trauma to the brain. A further update will be given later.” The police release stated on May 08, 2019.
