Thick smoke emanating from top flat of the G3 Building

A fire of so far unknown origin has swept through the upper flat of the G3 Building at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. The building houses a gym, restaurant and nightclub and pharmacy.

The fire which started just before 11:00 hrs on Thursday gutted the upper flat of the three storied building causing extensive fire and water damage to the facility.

The G# Building houses the Coin Restaurant and Bar in the middle flat, a Gym in the upper flat and a pharmacy in the lower flat of the building.

Fire fighters battling to restrict damage to the upper-flat only

It is suspected that the fire might have started in the living quarters in the upper which houses the gym and where a caretaker usually resides.

Firefighters were able to prevent the complete destruction of the building and contain the fire the upper flat which also saw the roof of the building being completely destroyed.

The fire service is at the moment conducting the mopping up exercise following which an investigation to determine the actual cause of the fire is expected to commence. The Guyana Fire Service has been praised for a job well done and their swift response as were the police for their control of the scene.
