Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday dismissed an assault charge against Divesh Ramjattan after the virtual complainant refused to testify against him.

Ramjattan pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on February 27, 2022, at Delph Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted a woman.

The father of two was represented by his father, Attorney-at-Law, Khemraj Ramjattan, who is also the leader of the Alliance for Change (AFC)—one of the parties that make up the main parliamentary Opposition APNU+AFC.

The woman refused to testify against Divesh Ramjattan, stating that she had already taken out a protection order against him. As such, the Chief Magistrate dismissed the charge against the younger Ramjattan.
