Forty-six-year-old Omawalie Caesar called “Wallie” of 1235 ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown was recently sentenced to 24 months in prison for stealing a cellular phone belonging to a city Magistrate.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Caesar had denied the charge which stated that on November 23, 2021, at Battery Road Kingston, Georgetown while in the company of others, he stole a Samsung Galaxy Note9 valued at $200,000 which belongs to Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.

Following a trial, he was, however, found guilty.

On the day in question, Magistrate Daly secured her car, leaving her phone inside. She thereafter went about her business.  Upon her return, she discovered that her car was broken into and her phone was missing.

As such, she reported the matter to the Police. Police ranks reviewed CCTV footage from the area in which they observed Caesar breaking into the Magistrate’s car and removing her phone before making good his escape.

At his first court appearance, Caesar was remanded to prison. He was previously charged with a similar offence. That matter is ongoing at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Courts.
