Slowe Sentenced to Time Served for Stabbing ‘Tiger’

October 24 2024 – Otis Slowe, now 21, has been sentenced to time served for the felonious wounding of former national boxer Gladwin Dorway, a crime he committed in 2019.
The sentence was handed down at the Demerara High Court by Justice Navindra Singh after Slowe pleaded guilty to the charge.
Justice Singh accepted Slowe’s guilty plea and acknowledged that the five years the young man had spent in pre-trial detention equated to a significant sentence.
As a result, Slowe was sentenced to time served, meaning he will not face additional jail time for the offence.
The incident occurred on the night of November 19, 2019, when Slowe, who was a teenager at the time, got into an altercation with Dorway, known in the boxing world as ‘Tiger’.
During the fight, Slowe pulled out a knife and stabbed Dorway before fleeing the scene.
The former boxer was hospitalized for several days at the Georgetown Public Hospital as a result of his injuries.
Slowe was later arrested and charged with felonious wounding. After spending five years awaiting trial, his time in custody has now been recognized as sufficient punishment for the crime.
