AGRI Min Seeks Partnership with Mexico

October 24 2024– Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha recently held discussions with Mexico’s Ambassador to Guyana, Mauricio Crespo, to explore potential collaborations in the agriculture sector.
During the meeting, Minister Mustapha outlined the government’s goal of expanding the production of key crops, including coconut, cocoa, and coffee.
The talks also touched on the possibility of launching a student exchange programme to enhance agricultural knowledge and expertise between the two countries.
In a separate engagement, Minister Mustapha met with the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ms. Jean Njeri Kamau.
The discussion focused on the government’s plans to advance the agricultural sector through investments and partnerships with international organizations, including the United Nations.
The meeting was also attended by FAO’s Representative in Guyana, Dr. Gillian Smith.
Ms. Kamau, who previously served as Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, brings extensive diplomatic experience.
Her distinguished career also includes postings in South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Washington D.C.
The discussions underscore the government’s commitment to strengthening Guyana’s agricultural sector through international collaboration and strategic partnerships.
