Commissioner Hicken Orders Stricter Traffic Oversight on EBD Road

October 14 2025
Following a high-level meeting on Sunday with President Dr. Irfaan Ali, representatives from China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), consultant Sheladia Associates Inc., engineers, and the traffic management team involved in the ongoing East Bank Public Road rehabilitation and expansion project, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has implemented new measures to improve traffic management in the area.
On Monday, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, accompanied by Regional Division 4B Commander, the Division’s Traffic Officer, Mr. Michael Ramdass, and the Commissioner’s Personal Assistant, ASP Kevindra Lall, visited several sections of the project site to assess current conditions and oversee the rollout of the enhanced traffic plan.
During the visit, Commissioner Hicken gave firm directives for an increased presence of traffic ranks along the corridor and instructed that decisive action be taken against errant drivers, particularly truck operators, who continue to flout traffic regulations and jeopardize public safety.
The new measures form part of a wider collaborative effort between the Government of Guyana, the Ministry of Public Works, and the Guyana Police Force to ensure the smooth progression of the East Bank Public Road project while maintaining safety, order, and efficiency for all road users.
