6-M-O baby dies as driver fell asleep at the wheel

The police on Monday reported that a six month old baby girl was killed in a crash along the Unity, East Coast Demerara road just after 01:30hrs.

Dead is Devine Khan of Lot 61 West Road Sparendaam.

A police statement related that motorcar PVV 2649, driven by 31 Year Old Davin Butts and motorcar PNN 8403, driven by Ackeem Jerrick were proceeding in two opposite directions when the accident took place. At the time, Jerrick had two occupants in his vehicle, Dequan Khan and the now dead 6-month-old Devine Khan,

“Motor car PNN 8403 was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Unity Public Road when it is alleged by the driver of motor car PVV 2649 that he was proceeding east along the northern drive lane, and he fell asleep and lost control of his car” the police statement noted.

Both drivers and occupants were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where six-month-old Devine Khan was pronounced dead on arrival while Davin Butts, who received injuries to his head, Ackeem Jerricks, who received injuries to his right leg, and Dequan Khan, who received injuries about her body are presently being treated at the said institution.

The investigations are ongoing.
