Makeal Jackson Da Silva

Brazilian national Makeal Jackson Da Silva was on Wednesday sentenced to four and a half years’ imprisonment for the November 2016 unlawful killing of Ked Lewis. Initially indicted for murder, DaSilva, who was arraigned before Justice Navindra Singh at the Essequibo High Court, pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.

With the aid of a translator, he admitted that between November 29 and 30, 2016, in the county of Essequibo, he unlawfully killed Lewis also known as ‘Keddo’ and ‘Kennedy.’ The confessed killer was represented by attorney-at-law Ravindra Mohabir, while Tiffini Lyken appeared for the State.

Based on reports, Lewis’ lifeless body was found in a mining pit with multiple wounds at Dukwari Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven. According to reports, Lewis and Jackson were seen leaving the camp where they worked together but only Jackson returned. At the time of his death, Lewis lived at Quataman Village, North Rupununi.
