Pilot Error Under Probe After Plane Damages School Fence in Karaudarnau

November 6 2025
Residents of Karaudarnau Village, South Rupununi Region Nine, were startled on Thursday morning when an aircraft bearing registration number 8R-THR reportedly landed on the road near the school, apparently confusing it for the village’s airstrip, and in the process damaging a part of the school’s fence.
According to reports, the aircraft touched down safely but collided with the fence of the newly constructed school during takeoff, striking it partially before regaining altitude.
Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, confirmed that the incident is being investigated by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
He stated that authorities will question the pilot and conduct a full assessment to determine what led to the error.
The aircraft has since departed for Ogle Airport, where the pilot will be interviewed by aviation officials.
No fatalities or injuries were reported, and the Minister has assured that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
