4.3 Kg Cannabis Seized at Port Kaituma — Two in Custody

Police in the North West District have arrested two men following the discovery of more than four kilograms of cannabis during a roadblock operation at Four Miles, Port Kaituma, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a police report, ranks from the Port Kaituma Police Station were conducting a routine “snap roadblock” around 17:30 hrs when they stopped a black Toyota Fielder wagon bearing registration number PAE 4985. The vehicle was being driven by James Rose, 20, of mixed ancestry, and had Eon Daniels, 35, an Amerindian man, as a passenger.

The occupants were informed of the reason for the stop and questioned about any illegal items in their possession, to which both denied having any.

However, after obtaining permission to search the vehicle, police discovered a speaker box inside the car containing four parcels wrapped in Scotch tape. The parcels contained seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Upon being cautioned, Rose reportedly told police, “This is Bobby’s weed I’m carrying,” while Daniels stated, “I’m just a porter… I don’t know anything about this weed.”

Both men were arrested and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed, amounting to 4.3 kilograms. The substance has since been sealed, marked, and lodged as evidence as investigations continue.
