April 2 2025 – Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, met on Wednesday with Johanna Langbroek, Country Director of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Guianas, and Aiesha Williams, Conservation Director of WWF Guyana, to discuss key environmental and agricultural initiatives.

During the meeting, Minister Mustapha highlighted the government’s commitment to balancing agricultural growth with environmental sustainability.

He emphasized the importance of modernizing farming practices while simultaneously reducing the ecological impact of agricultural activities.

In addition to sustainable farming, the discussion also focused on combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The minister reiterated the need for continued collaboration to strengthen fisheries monitoring, control, surveillance, and enforcement, ensuring that Guyana’s marine resources are effectively managed and protected.

The engagement underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to work with international conservation partners to promote sustainable development while safeguarding the country’s natural resources.
