Traffic Operation in Berbice Nets 74 Offences

April 2 2025 – Traffic ranks in Regional Division #6 carried out a successful ‘Operation Safe Road’ exercise in East Berbice yesterday, recording 74 traffic offences during the operation.
The exercise led to the issuance of 39 tickets and the arrest of 35 individuals for various infractions.
According to a press statement issued by the Guyana Police Force, the operation targeted reckless and unsafe driving practices, resulting in charges for a range of traffic violations, including:

Dangerous driving – 3 cases

Prohibition of tinted glass – 7 cases

Crossing double solid lines – 3 cases

No silencer – 2 cases

No warning appliance – 1 case

Using a motor vehicle for an unlicensed purpose – 3 cases

Use of handheld mobile devices while driving – 5 cases

Uncertified motor vehicle – 5 cases

Uninsured motor vehicle – 3 cases

Unlicensed motor vehicle – 2 cases

Failure to wear seatbelt – 3 cases

Unlicensed driver – 1 case

Speeding – 7 cases

Failure to produce driver’s licence – 1 case

Riding a motorcycle without a safety helmet – 8 cases

Improper conduct of driver – 8 cases

Using a handheld mobile phone while driving – 4 cases
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing reckless driving in the region. The ‘Operation Safe Road’ initiative aims to enforce traffic laws while promoting responsible driving behavior to ensure safer roadways for all users.
