Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha on Thursday met with officials of the National Commission on Disability (NCD) to advance ongoing efforts to improve inclusivity and strengthen support for persons with disabilities within Guyana’s agriculture sector.

During the meeting, NCD representatives outlined several proposed areas of collaboration, including sensitization sessions for Ministry staff on effectively engaging persons with disabilities, as well as deeper cooperation in implementing the Disability Act across agriculture programmes and agencies.

Minister Mustapha welcomed the recommendations and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to opportunities within the sector.

He pointed to the Ministry’s model farm currently under development, which is being designed specifically to accommodate persons with disabilities.

The facility, he said, will provide a safe and supportive environment where beneficiaries can participate in hands-on agricultural activities, receive skills training, and access production support and income-earning opportunities.

The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader push to expand inclusion and ensure that persons with disabilities are fully integrated into Guyana’s growing agriculture landscape.
