Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating a fatal accident that occurred around 13:15 hrs on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the intersection of Lamaha Street and Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.

The crash involved motor lorry GAH 5884, driven by a 33-year-old man from Long Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, and pedal cyclist Lennox George Benjamin, 69, of Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, who died at the scene.

According to initial investigations, the lorry was stopped on the southern driving lane of Lamaha Street, facing west, at a red light. Benjamin was riding west along the same lane, positioned to the left of the lorry.

When the light turned green, the lorry proceeded into the intersection and began turning south onto Vlissengen Road. During the turn, the left rear section of the lorry struck the cyclist, causing him to fall and sustain severe injuries.

Emergency medical personnel responded, but Benjamin was pronounced dead by a doctor. His body was later taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

The lorry driver was taken into custody as investigations continue.
