More charges likely against child killer ‘Max’

A second charge is likely to be filed against 23-year-old Shaheed Mohammed, called “Max”, in connection with injuries allegedly inflicted on the grandmother of murdered seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed.

Crime Chief and Deputy Commissioner of Police Wendell Blanhum said investigators are continuing their probe and are awaiting the recovery of the child’s grandmother before moving forward with the matter.

According to Blanhum, detectives intend to obtain a statement from the woman once she is medically cleared. The completed case file will then be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

He explained that the DPP will determine what additional charges, if any, should be instituted after reviewing the evidence gathered by investigators.

Blanhum described the incident as a “gruesome and despicable act” but noted that further details are being withheld as the investigation remains ongoing.

Mohammed was earlier charged with the murder of seven-year-old Adriel, who was killed during an attack at his Zeelugt home on June 5. The child’s grandmother was also seriously injured during the incident and remains under medical care.
