Minister Croal pushes stronger UN-Habitat partnership

𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 – Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, engaged in high-level discussions with Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Anacláudia Rossbach and Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Elkin Velasquez. The meeting took place during the ongoing Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan.
As part of the engagement, Minister Croal presented a token of appreciation to the Executive Director, reflecting Guyana’s recognition of UN-Habitat’s continued partnership and support in advancing sustainable housing and urban development.
The engagement focused on advancing cooperation in housing and sustainable urban development, with particular attention given to the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry and UN-Habitat under the Guyana Strategy for Informal Settlement Upgrade and Prevention (GSISUP).
Discussions highlighted efforts aimed at improving living conditions within vulnerable communities, advancing inclusive urban growth, and supporting the development of safer and more sustainable development throughout Guyana.
The Minister also outlined the administration’s broader vision for modernising Guyana’s housing landscape through expanded development initiatives and the creation of well-planned communities designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population. The engagement further underscored the value of strong partnerships with international agencies such as UN-Habitat in supporting Guyana’s broader urban and national development agenda.
