Police Force ready for GBA National Open and Intermediate Championship

Get ready for an electrifying showdown as the Guyana Police Force gears up to dominate the ring at the highly anticipated Guyana Boxing Association’s (GBA) National Open and Intermediate Championships set for October 25-27.

Under the fierce leadership of coach Dexter Marques, a celebrated former national and professional boxer, the lawmen are primed to unleash their fury at the National Gymnasium.

“We’re coming in strong this year!” Marques declared, exuding confidence as he revealed plans to field at least 15 hungry boxers ready to make a lasting impression across multiple weight divisions. “We’ve been putting in the rounds, and our eyes are on the prize. We’re not settling for second place; we’re going for the title!”

This year’s championship holds special significance, as it pays tribute to the late Terrence Poole, MS, a beloved figure in Guyana’s boxing scene who dedicated his life to nurturing the sport. As one of the GBA’s premier events, it promises to draw top-tier fighters from all corners of the country, all vying for national glory.

Marques, boasting an impressive record of 19 wins and 4 losses—most recently triumphing over Colombia’s Sammy Ramos in August—has his team in peak fighting shape. “The commitment I’ve seen in training is inspiring. Each boxer is bringing incredible energy to the gym, making it difficult to finalize our lineup because they’re all performing at such a high level,” he admitted.

“Go out there and execute our game plan,” he urged his boxers, emphasizing the importance of sticking to their training. “If they follow through with what we’ve practiced, along with those crucial details we’ve worked on, victory is within our grasp!”

However, Marques remains cautious, aware of the fierce competition awaiting them, particularly from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the formidable boxing talent emerging from Berbice. With the stakes higher than ever, the Guyana Police Force is ready to deliver a knockout performance!
