Oneidge Walrond Takes Over as Minister of Home Affairs

Minister Oneidge Walrond has officially assumed leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs following a formal handover ceremony on Monday, September 15, 2025.
Former Minister Robeson Benn, who now serves as Senior Advisor in Home Affairs and Natural Resources, symbolically passed on the reins during the occasion, marking the start of a new chapter in the Ministry’s stewardship.
Minister Walrond was welcomed by Permanent Secretary Andre Ally and senior officials as she took charge of the Ministry and its agencies, which include the Guyana Police Force, the Guyana Prison Service, the Guyana Fire Service, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit, the General Register Office, the Juvenile Justice Department, the Guyana Forensic Science Laboratory, the National Community Policing of Guyana, and Immigration Support Services.
The ceremony was highlighted by a patriotic performance from the Guyana Police Force Band, which rendered My Guyana, Eldorado by F.P. Loncke and I Am a Guyanese by Adrian Dutchin.
