Police sergeant fingered as bus driver is shot dead

DEAD: Cleavon Gomes

The police in Mahdia, Region Eight are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a minibus driver whose name was given as Cleavon Gomes. According to what was communicated to BIG Smith News Watch, Gomes and a man whose name was given as Elton were tantalizing each other when things got out of control.

At some point during the taunts, Elton got offended and became defensive by assaulting Gomes. He Elton then left the area and went home where he returned with a cutlass to confront Gomes.

As the two were involved in a heated argument and exchanges, an explosion was head and Gomes fell to the ground and later cried out that he was shot. Gomes, 37-years old is said to be a bus driver in the town.

BIG Smith News Watch has been told that residents are contending that it was not Elton who shot Gomes and that the shot may have come from a weapon which a police detective who was present at the time had in his possession.

There are also claims that while the police indicated that efforts were made to have the injured man medevac out of the region t seek advance medical attention, that was not done. They are also contending that it remains very strange that a person (Elton) would leave to go home and return with a cutlass when he knows that he can return with a gun.

It is being said that the police detective might have drawn his weapon and fired at the men after seeing that the brawl involved a cutlass and during that process, the bullet struck Gomes.

Residents are calling for the police to move swiftly in their investigation by dusting the hands of both Eltona nd the policeman so that any signs of gun powder residue could be obtained within a timely manner.
