Brothers, ages 13 and 9, missing after MV Barima sinking

July 20 2026
Bryan Thomas, 13, and Kyle Thomas, 9, are among the persons who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
Their cousin Bryan told BIG Smith News Watch that the two brothers, who reside in Success/Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara, were travelling with their mother, Gorgina Lowee, to visit their father in Port Kaituma for a vacation while school was closed.
He said Lowee was the only survivor among the three family members who were on the vessel, while Bryan and Kyle remain missing.
The family is appealing for any information that could assist in locating the two brothers as the search continues for those missing from the MV Barima.
