DEAD BUSINESSMAN: Lemenzo Johnny

By Royan Abram

Three persons were arrested and are being questioned by the police in Berbice following the discovery of a businessman’s remains in on a plot of land in a clump of bushes a few houses from his home on Tuesday morning in Berbice. Dead is 49-year old Lemenzo Johnny of 11 East, Side-Line Dame, Rosehall Town, Corentyne Berbice.

Police sources indicated to BIG Smith News Watch that the three persons who have been picked up for questioning in relation to the matter are three young people from the said community who it is believed played a role in the man’s killing.

Items that the police suspected to have been removed from the man’s home were found in the possession of the young men, this publication was told. The businessman lived in a double flat alone and it is stated that on Wednesday he reportedly left his home to go jogging as is customary but never returned home.

Workers who are said to be working on a building close by discovered Johnny with his feet tied with the use of his shoelace while marks which were found on his body suggested that he may have been strangled. His face was also covered in blood.

Ronald Yassim, a relative of the now-dead businessman related that he received a call about the discovery. He explained that this is not the first time that his relative was robbed but after the first attack, he adopted a measure to have the place properly secured.

“Being that he is a big businessman in the area we would say that am he was under scrutiny right because he lives alone his wife and children are overseas for years now so is he alone” Yassim added.

Detectives who showed up at the crime scene were seen combing for any clues even as their work was being monitored by curious onlookers from the village and relatives of the businessman. The police investigations are ongoing.
