The Strip and Boardroom managers among three charged for breach of COVID-19 regulations

The police said that Jamaal Jahurali, the manager of the STRIP Bar, Rico Vanderyar, manager for Boardroom Bar, both located at Giftland Mall and Amir Khan of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara all appeared in Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

They were arrested for breach of restrictions on social activity in contravention of No.2(1)(i)Restrictions Contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the COVID-19 19 Emergency Measure (No.2) No53/2020 contrary to Section 21 (2) of the Public Health Ordinance Act Chapter 145.

Jahurali and Khan pleaded guilty and were fined $16,500 on each charge while Rico Vanderyar pleaded not guilty and was placed on $20,000 bail the police said. Vanderyar is set to return to court on March 26, 2021.

Giftland Group of Companies have accused the police of unfair targetting and harassment over the opening of the bars and restaurants located at the Mall.
