86 ‘Guardian Angels’ to stand between ‘Good and Evil’ as police increase strength

Commissioner of Police Leslie James yesterday referred to an all-male parade of graduated policemen as ‘Guardian Angels’ who are expected to stand firmly between good and even when they are assigned to the various police divisions and branches of the force.

Yesterday the men stood for their parade before the Commissioner of Police, senior ranks and of course gleeful relatives who could not stop using their mobile devices and other gadgets to capture moments which would go down as history for the individual ranks.

In his address which did not last too long, Commissioner James just about summed it up on what the force and public expects of the new policemen who will now being joined to the strength of the Guyana Police Force. They represented three courses, namely courses 377, 378 and 379.

Leslie James told the young men that as they go into the fields, they need to ensure that their actions at all times are in conformity with the rule of law.

“While executing your duties, the history of this noble organisation has shown that we have been resolute in our endeavor and resilient in treating with challenges and that would confront us in different periods of time, you are no different”

The course lasted for several months and saw the men being exposed to various modules in training all geared at making them well rounded policemen and women. Their training also saw the inclusion of teaching in the areas of tourism policing, conflict resolution, customer service and leadership.

The cops were reminded that they are now equipped with knowledge of laws of Guyana, regulations and guidelines.

“Be impartial during your investigation and while you are in the inquiries office, you are reminded that the citizens would quit rightly expect a professional service from you” James added.

Tho not visible as before, James assured that the Guyana Police Force is continuing with its Social Crime Prevention programs within the regional police divisions and that the capacity building within the force continues to be developed through collaborations.

“You have been selected and are now being posted as men in blue, the guarded angels within our ten regional divisional to work with those who would have proceed you. You have accepted this job to be on a mission to stand firmly between good and evil, remember your oath of office and the pledge of your sworn duty” Commissioner Leslie James passionately reminded his new officers.

Assistant Commissioner Training, Clifton Hicken told the ranks that they will be met with challenges and whatever decisions they make must be done within the realm of the goals and objectives of the Guyana Police Force while not being afraid to ask questions.

Enticing the crowd on Friday

“Provide a service to the public because that is what you were employed to do, you are fabrics of social society you are a fabric of the community, do not stay away from the communities, the communities need you like you need the communities to prevail” Hicken noted.

The drill display by the new members of the force did brought smiles to the faces of those gathered even as those who performed exceptional during the course were rewarded with trophies.
